As the temperature cools here in St. Paul, I’m shifting my wardrobe to match. Gone are the days of flowy, lightweight attire, and in their place I’m eagerly welcoming warmer clothing options and plenty of layers.
Given that I’ll be continuing working from home, my wardrobe goal right now is to wear comfortable clothing that’s also stylish (and fun), and that helps delineate my days between work time and family time.
Today I’m sharing six of the style staples that are carrying me into fall, along with a few tips for little things that will make getting dressed a bit more enjoyable, no matter the season.
Style Staple #1: Fun Socks
First up? A very simple adjustment you can make to any outfit: adding fun socks. Most of the time, we don’t consider our socks as a part of our outfit, but adding socks with a delightful color and pattern is a great way to up the ante on your daily style (puppy not included with purchase, unfortunately).

Style Staple #2: Turtleneck Sweaters
Nothing screams transitional autumnal dressing to me more than a turtleneck. Add a sweater to the mix and you’ve got the perfect combination, in my opinion. I put this particular outfit on yesterday after fitting a SHOWER into my morning routine (a big win for me these days) and it was an excellent decision all-around.

Style Staple #3: Bandanas
Bandanas are one of the most multipurpose accessory staples out there right now. I use them almost daily to serve as both a style accent and makeshift mask when I’m out running errands in the world. I’ve found that sometimes it’s nice to mix it up from the standard mask and try something different.

Style Staple #4: Jewelry
I recently organized my bathroom drawers and now that I have a better storage system, I find I’m wearing all of my jewelry more often. This thing that was once an afterthought each morning as I hurried to get dressed is now an enjoyable part of my routine. I like jewelry that adds a bit of a statement without being uncomfortable to wear all day long. I love these medallion rope earrings from Another Feather.

Style Staple #5: Cardigans
One of my favorite layering staples through and through, cardigans can fit the bill for almost any occasion the fall season has to throw our way (especially this year, sans any fancy parties to attend). I love throwing one on over a simple tee or wearing it on its own, styled with a tied bandana, as shown above.

Style Staple #6: Statement Sleeves
In the past year I have become a massive fan of statement sleeves—the bigger the better, if you ask me. I find them to be an easy, beautiful way to add drama to an outfit that’s otherwise comprised of basic pieces. I told my daughter Bennett that I hide my super powers in my sleeves…and maybe I do, who’s to say?
